The Incredible Uncertainty of Digital Drawing

I’ve been drawing on my computer for the first time in ages. My wacom tablet’s been looking at me so accusingly so I just had to try again.   I did a drawing in Flash, just a random face to get back into practice.

Drawing on a computer is very different from anything else.  I find the ability to undo useful, obviously, but it can also be paralysing.  “Was that stroke right?  Maybe not (undo) and that one? (undo) maybe this one? (undo)”

With pen and paper you just have to make your mistakes work for you.  But I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  Want to try something with patterns, next.

Sometimes I wonder if the undo function makes us impatient.
It’s funny that when I get back to draw by hand, there’s several time that I instinctively look for the keys when I make mistakes!

Long time no talk here. Hope you are doing well 🙂

Doing fine! I think you are right about the undo making us impatient. I had a friend who told me that when she is done drawing, she has the impulse to stare at it and think “Save!” before she can close her sketchpad. 🙂

That’s funny! but I think it would be nice if we can do that for real 😀
