Namesakes: “Lisa Frank”

I suppose its not so strange. “Lisa Frank” must be quite a common name. And what is the significance of having the same name as some one else in any case? But I still find it fascinating to find two women with the same name who create such different works:

Lisa Frank number one is :

Known for her trademark range of stickers and stationary that were wildly popular among little girls in the ’80’s. The kind of thing that provoked epic feuds and fraught bargaining on the playground. Unicorns, kittens and bears:

She is still going strong. Check out her website . Here you have the usual feverish encouragement to buy as many Lisa Frank products as you can stand. But here also are articles on making your own clothes from recycled jeans, cosmetics from stuff you can find in the fridge, and tips on how to study. A sort of recycling home-made hippie girl power thing.

Lisa Frank number two is a photographer /designer / artist. Here is a link to her site

How different can you get:

And this image is a sort of bridge between the two Lisas, on from a series of images of animal figurines in natural surroundings, called “Unnatural Habitat”:

A quote from Lisa Frank number two, from the Be Gallery Site :

“Nature’s design seems infinitely wise, arbitrary, powerful and complex. As an observer and witness, I am repeatedly stopped in my tracks to wonder, ‘How in the world did this happen?’ My intention is to capture my wonderment in ways that translate to the viewer.”

I wonder. Would the two Lisa’s have something in common, if they ever were to meet?
