So I’m back from my trip to Port Alfred.  My new cell phone has a camera so I was able to document stuff. I was pleasantly surprised at how well my dogs traveled.  Pippin just slept most of the way.  Anna had to keep an eye on the road through that little window behind the drivers seat.

We spent new years eve in Calitzdorp and had a thrilling encounter with this:

And that is more or less life size.  It  visited us after dark and scuttled around our little cottage at breakneck speed, scaring us half into fits.  I’ve never seen a spider (is it a spider?) move so fast.  I found it on the stoep the next moring – dead.  How did it die?  What is it?  No idea.

As usual, if you look for it, you find art everywhere.  This looks like a student’s fine art installation, buts its a view of the Calitzdorp Post Office.  I think the thornbush is there to keep vagrants out:
