I’ve been enjoying looking at Maria Majewska’s illustrations of Markus Muis se Nuwe Huis ( Marcus Mouse’s New House). I like the way she uses pattern and treats all surfaces with equal attention. And I like how she draws everything with such respect for what it is.
The story is about Marcus Mouse’s search for a comfortable home. He starts off in his overcrowded family home:
I love this image of the Cat’s eye peering in at the mouse family:
But Markus has some trouble finding a safe home. He tries an owls nest:
Somebody’s slipper:
And a lot of other places, including a heap of dolls:
Until at last, he finds a place that feels right:
And he snuggles down in his bed of newspaper shreds:
Well, its late and I’m yawning. Good night.

I LOVE Maria Majewska illustrations of mice. Wish she could illustrate my book cause I am a good artist.
